Our community boasts a few landmarks which you can view in this section!
In September 1993, the Kossuth Lajos statue was inaugurated in the square in front of the church, on Kossuth Street, initiated by the residents of the community. The inauguration ceremony also celebrated the 1000th anniversary of the Hungarian state and the 800th anniversary of the community. Béla Juhász, the founding president of the local branch of the KMKSZ, initiated the erection of the statue. The sculptor of the statue is Pál Kő, who became an honorary citizen of the village in 1994 (a second copy of the statue is located in Szolnok). Tamás Katona, the then-state secretary, unveiled the statue and spoke about the need for cooperation and peaceful coexistence among nations along the borders for the economic development of Nagypalád. Many local leaders and artists spoke to the audience at the inauguration ceremony, including Sándor Patkós, the school principal, Dr. Ferenc Deák, head of the Berehove Branch of the Transcarpathian County Pedagogical Institute, Dr. Elemér Kovács, president of the KMKSZ Nagyszőlős District Organization, and Károly László, the Reformed pastor from Técső. The cultural program featured performances by actor János Papp, the Nagypalád men's choir, the brass band, the Péterfalva Music School, and folk singer Katalin Szvorák. As the president of the Transcarpathian Union, Tamás Katona reflected in 2003: "on my mother's side, as far as the eye can see, every other village had a reformed pastor; almost all of my ancestral kin lived here and are buried here..." To this day, it is the only full-length Kossuth statue in Transcarpathia.
The monument, erected by the Transcarpathian Hungarian Cultural Association (KMKSZ) in 1991, is located in the Reformed cemetery in Nagypalád. The purpose of the monument is to honor the memory of the Nagypalád victims who fell in World War I. The names of the victims are inscribed on the monument, and it is important to the local community that these names are preserved for future generations. The monument is commemorated every year, where local residents, family members, and other interested parties pay their respects to the victims and remember the horrors of the war and the heroism of those who sacrificed their lives for their country. The annual wreath-laying event not only serves to honor the memory of the heroes but also strengthens community cohesion and historical awareness.
The construction of the church can be traced back to the mid-19th century and serves the religious needs of the local Reformed community. The building features classic Reformed church architecture, with simple yet impressive forms that reflect the principles of Reformed thought, emphasizing purity and symmetry. The interior of the church contains traditional Reformed symbols and decorations that contribute to the dignity of the ceremonies. For the local community, the church is not only a religious center but also a venue for cultural events and community gatherings. The surrounding cemetery and monuments, such as the World War I monument, also play important roles in preserving local traditions and historical memories. The Reformed Church in Nagypalád regularly hosts various religious celebrations, services, and contributes to enriching the spiritual life of the local community. The building's condition and preservation are also important for the community, as the church is not only a place of religious life but also a symbol of community cohesion and historical memory.
